Not only is the Adam Thoroughgood house one of the earliest (and most pristine) examples of colonial architecture, but it’s also home to a rare American Elm. Most of our Elms were wiped out by Dutch Elm disease.
Head to the Church Point Manor House and admire the Willow Oak keeping a steadfast eye over the magnificent property.
In Great Neck you’ll find a 240-year-old Pecan, one of the last standing from a grove of colonial-era Pecans.
Flanked by pristine landscaping, the 290-year-old Sycamore stands guard over the Francis Land House, witnessing the plethora of changes this historic site has undergone throughout the centuries.
In Great Neck you’ll find another Willow Oak standing guard over the current neighborhood that is most certainly not 300 years old. 😉

On the property you’ll find immaculately landscaped grounds as well as a bevy of old-growth trees. Most notable, a rare 250-year-old American Elm along the fence line. Most of Tidewater’s Elms were wiped out by Dutch Elm Disease, making this peculiar tree a true testament to this land’s spirit of perseverance.
Be sure to pop by and enjoy some of their amazing year-round programming or take it easy and tour the grounds.
